The Tamil Maanila Congress on Thursday called for more consultations before the National Education Policy is finalised.
The last date for sharing inputs on the draft NEP is August 16, but the TMC said that more voices need to be heard. “As a party, the TMC has spoken about this document multiple times. We feel that the Central Government should talk to educationists, students and other stakeholders before they finalise the policy,” TMC president G.K. Vasan told journalists here on Thursday. Significantly, the party has refrained from rejecting the draft NEP. Mr. Vasan said that the politics and education should be kept separate. He invoked the memory of former chief minister K. Kamaraj, whose educational policies were influential to the day, and said that any government should seek to emulate him. He said that he hoped the government was listening to the people and political parties on the NEP and would come out with its response soon.
