‘Protect environment, domestic industry while inviting investments’

GIM should have been conducted long ago, says G. K. Vasan

Environment and domestic industry need to be protected while inviting global investments, said Tamil Manila Congress president G.K.Vasan.

While addressing press persons here on Tuesday he said the Global Investor Meet (GIM) should have been conducted long ago and it was a delayed attempt. While attracting investments the state should take care to ensure that the companies that bring investments here generate employment to the educated youth.

The state should also take care to ensure that the companies that come here did not affect domestic industry and environment, he said.

Farmers demand Rs.4,000 per tonne of sugarcane and Rs.2,500 for per quintal of paddy. However the centre and state governments are not paying heed to the farmers.

“Our party would be organising a huge demonstration to support the demands of the farmers in the delta region within 15 days.

People are expecting the government to waive cooperative loans and they also expect state to close all the liquor shops. Government should concede to the demands and close all the liquor shops accepting popular demand.

Government shall discuss with economists and as well as people to explore ways to compensate the loss that may occur due to prospective closure of liquor shops. Exploitation of river sand is rampant in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts. The phenomenon resulted in depletion of water table. Hence, those in power should take steps to stop the exploitation,” he added. District President of Tamil Manila Congress K.Manivarma was present.
