Maintain law and order: Vasan

Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan hoped that the ruling party will realise its prime responsibility for upkeep of law and order in the context of protests by AIADMK partymen against Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan.

Mr. Vasan, who was here to take part in the conference of TMC’s agricultural wing, told reporters on Wednesday that agitations must not cause public inconvenience and that people were keenly watching utterances by leaders of political parties.

Leaders can no longer assume that they can expand vote bank by exceeding their brief while criticising political rivals, Mr. Vasan said, in an apparent reference to Mr. Elangovan’s portrayal of the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. “Those in responsible positions must not insult duly elected representatives,” Mr. Vasan said, but added the TMC did not endorse the protests by AIADMK in front of Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the Congress headquarters.

Total prohibition

On total prohibition, Mr. Vasan said it could be practically implemented in stages.11889451_1720711198150734_3000866398174825386_n
